Description

ItNative evergreen groundcover makes a great substitute for the Nonnative Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon japonicus). It tolerates extremely dry, high calcium soils. Plant in part shade to shade. Deer do not normally eat sedges. Sedges make great deer baffles for tastier plants. Carex sps. (Sedges) are larval hosts to Several Butterflies and Skippers: Appalachian Brown Butterfly, Eyed Brown Butterfly, Duke’s Skipper, Dun Skipper, Broadwinged Skipper. Sedges are also the larval hosts of numerous moths and insects., Birds and small mammals eat the seeds and the insects that live on the plant. Birds and small mammals shelter in sedges and use them for nesting material. It is native to NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, and TX.  We propagated from Native Populations in Beaufort County, SC.
