This 6″-12″ tall heirloom bulb produces fragrants flowers in Spring. Plant where it gets sun or part shade in Winter and early Spring. It goes dormant in the Summer. It prefers average to moist soil. It thrives in high calcium soils. Deer generally ignore it. If deer are problem, interplant it with Salvia coccinea (Scarlet Sage) Chasmanthium laxum, Chasmanthium sessiliflorum or Lyreleaf Sage (Salvia lyrata). We propagated our plants from ones that Dee Hiester shared with me from a garden on St. Helena Island, SC.
