Description

Bees are attracted to this knee-high, evergreen, native perennial when it blooms in Spring. Dixie Irises thrive in average to wet soil in full sun to part shade. Occasionally, deer will nibble the leaves, but I have never seen them cause significant damage. Some Dixie Irises that I planted in a client’s garden were flooded during Hurricane Matthew. They did not appear to have suffered any damage. We propagated our plants from a native population that I rescued from construction in Beaufort County, SC in the early ’90s. There are no known extant populations in the county.
