Solidago nemoralis (Southern Gray Goldenrod)

Sharing is caring!

Description

This is the goldenrod for people who are afraid of Goldenrods. It doesn’t produce runners and unless it is heavily watered (like in the nursery) It stays about 2′ tall. It is also the Goldenrod for people who thought they couldn’t grow Goldenrod. The native population was in shell sand, exposed to salt winds, and under live oaks in McIntosh Co., GA.  Like all goldenrods, it hosts an abundance of pollinators (bees, butterflies, beetles, beneficial insects) and provides seeds for birds. Since they are pollinated by insects, not the wind, they are not a major allergen.
