Description

Low-growing native, evergreen (in warmer areas) groundcover makes an excellent lawn substitute. It is tolerant of wetness, dryness, foot traffic, mowing, compacted soils, salt wind and occasional salt flooding. From May to October abundant flowers attract Native Bees, Beneficial Insects, Butterflies, Skippers.. . It is also the larval host of three butterflies: Phaon Crescent, Buckeye and White Peacock. butterfly. Creeping Frogfruit and Lanceleaf Frogfruit (Phyla lanceolata) are the only larval hosts for the Phaon Crescent.  It has been used medicinally for various purposes in many parts of the world. I have attached link to a study from India supporting the use as a antibiotic, antifungal, larvicidal, anti-tumor medicine. It showed effectiveness in treating disorders of the skin, urinary system, and nervous styem.   Many other uses were suggested.The more sun, the better. Itis native to AL, AR, AZ, CA, FL, GA, HI, KS, KY, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NM, NV, OKO, OR, PA, SC, TX, UT and VA.  It is also native to many other tropical and subtropical parts of the world. We propagated the plants from native populations in Beaufort Cos., and Charleston Cos., SC.

Pollinating Insects from Illinois Wildflowers. bumblebees, leaf-cutting bees, Epeoline cuckoo bees, long-horned bees, green metallic bees and other Halictid bees, Beneficial Insec Syrphid flies, bee flies, thick-headed flies, Tachinid flies, small butterflies, and skippers.
