2’3′ tall Native Perennial has attractive foliage in spring, white flowers from July to October and curious seeds which jump several feet when touched. Flowers attract numerous pollinators: Butterflies, Skippers, Moths, at least 4 types of native bees, 3 types of native wasps, and various flies. Many of these wasps and flies are beneficial insects. It is larval host of 2 Butterflies: Bronze Copper and Purplish Copper and 13 Moths. Deer Resistant. Numerous other insects feed on the plant making it a great hunting ground for Mother Birds. The seeds are a preferred food for Songbirds, Upland Game Cards, and Waterfowl. It is generally deer and rabbit resistant. It is edible and has been used medicinally. Plant in Average to Flooded Rich Soil in Sun or Shade. It is native to the following US states: AL, AR, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV. It is also native in Canada and Mexico. We propagated our plants from Native Populations in Beaufort Co. SC
