Description
Though very rare in the SC Coastal Plain, This 1′-2′ tall evergreen native perennial thrives in all but the wettest and driest soils. It is very deer resistant. Blooming from February-April, it attracts butterflies and bees. Birds feed on the seeds. birds feed-upon. It spreads by stolons making a nice ground cover. Sun or part-shade. We propagated our plants from native populations in Beaufort Co., SC, Jasper Co, SC and Chatham Co., GA. The populations along the Southern Coast of SC where not documented scientifically until Daniel C. Payne reported them in his Master’s Thesis. Several of the populationns in Beaufort County have since been destroyed by development and/or utility corridor maintenance. Plant them in your garden to preserve the unique coastal form of this species.
Notes: 11/11/22: Our new crop will be ready by late winter or early spring. Please order now to reserve your plants at current prices. Thank you!
