Description
Heirloom plant, introduced from Asia. In Beaufort, SC, plants send up shoots by mid-February. Beautiful, fragrant flowers on 6′ tall plants in mid-summer. If they are in the midst of tall plants, they can grow over 8′ tall flower above them. Attracts Hummingbirds, Large Butterflies and Large Moths. Naturalizes but is not invasive. Deer usually do not browse on this species. We propagated our plants from ones we rescued from a construction site in Beaufort County, and from plants shared by Dee Hiers, a phenomenal local gardener. Sun to part-shade. Average to dry soil.
