Description
3′ tall native evergreen perennial is covered with blue and yellow flowers from Late March to June. It attracts native bees, skippers, butterflies and hummingbirds. It is the larval host of at least 3 moths: Virginia Ctenucha, Agreeable Tiger Moth, and Iris Borer Moth. Birds feed on the caterpillars and other insects as well as the seeds. Plant in sun or shade in average to wet soil. It is highly deer-resistant. Native in USA: AL, AR, DC, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV and Canada: ON We propagated our plants from native populations in Georgetown Co., SC, Beaufort Co., SC and Long Co., GA.
