Description
Rare.Native Perennial whose ovate leaves make a flat rosette on the ground. 1′ Tall Flower Stalks blooms May-Oct. Should by larval host to Buckeye, and White Peacock Butterflies since they feed on many members of the same family) Pollinated by butterflies and moths. Spreads by seeds released by exploding capsules. (I cannot find any reference to anyone else cultivating this species. There is very little information for the plant online. We propagated our plants from a native population in Effingham Co. GA in 2021. (That was the first time I had ever seen this plant in the wild. I have not seen it anywhere seince. We have been growing it in the nursery siince then. 2024 is the first time we are offering them for soil. It thrives in moist soil in both and sun and shade in the nursery. Tolerates high calcium soils (near shell, limestone or concrete) It does not sucker. It is not aggressive. Native to SC, GA and FL
