Description
12′-30′ Native, Deciduous to Evergreen Clinging Vine is covered with lacy clusters of fragrant white flowers from April to October which attract butterflies, bees and other pollinators. The copper colored urn shaped fruit is cherished by florists. Leaves are shiny and cover surfaces in both sun and shade. They turn peach color in the fall. Growing vines create microhabitat for moisture-loving organisms enhancing the biodiversity of the garden. Native to AL, AR, DE, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, NY, SC, TN, and VA. We propagated our plants from a native population in Beaufort Co., SC. Can be grown as a groundcover or a climber on trees, rocks, and masonry. It will bloom when climbing. Prefers average to wet rich soil. Start in shade but it can climb into sunny spots.
