Description

1.5′-3′ tall native perennial is covered with white flowers from August to October.  Butterflies, moths, bees and beneficial insects (wasps and flies) all feed on the flowers. It is the larval host of at least 5 moths which are important pollinators. Two of these moths: the Ruby Tiger Moth and the Lined Ruby Tiger Moth are quite attractive. Mama birds hunt for caterpillars and other insects on the plant to feed their young.  Butterflies and bees love the flowers of this robust fall-blooming native perennial. Birds eat the seeds. It has been used medicinally. Plant in part shade to full shade in circumneutral soil. It is very deer resistant. Native to the following US States and Candadian Provinces USA: AL, AR, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, and WV.
