Carefree heirloom garden plant This South African introduction was once common in Southern gardens. The flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.Thin every few years to increase flowering. Average to dry soil. Sun or shade. Deer-resistant! We propagated our plants from ones growing in Mary Alice Amrine’s garden on Lady’s Island, SC in the early ’90s. She was an amazing woman with a heart of gold. They grew in great drifts under her pine trees and around her blueberries.
