Highly nutritious Native American vegetable. Now cultivated throughout the world. Extremely prolific, plant. On good soil plants can grow > 10′ tall. Plant where spreading is not a problem. Attractive flowers in the fall attract butterflies. Birds love the seeds. The USDA Plant Atlas classifies them as native to AL, AR, CO, CT, DE, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, NI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, and WY. We acquired our original plants from the garden of Beulah McCaston Sawyer in Beaufort Co, SC in the early 90’s and have been growing them in the nursery ever since. Please notify us a week before pickup or delivery so that we can get them potted and ready for you.
