Description
Mound Shaped Shrub with arching branches, spreads by runners to form thickets. Grows to 10′ but can easily be maintained to 3′ -6′ tall. Long spires of fragrant white flowers bloom from March to June attracting bees, butterflies and other insects. Makes excellent shelter and nesting areas for birds. Leaves turn beautiful colors of orange, red and purple and fall and persist through most of the winter. It does best in moist acidic soil in full sun to part shade, It tolerates saturated soils and periodic inundation. Excellent for erosion control on streambanks. Native to AL , AR , DC , DE , FL , GA , IL , IN , KY , LA , MD , MO , MS , NC , NJ , OK , PA , SC , TN , TX , VA. We propagate our plants from multiple native locations in Coastal SC. (Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, Colleton, and Charleston Cos.)
