Description
The sweet smell of Old Fashioned Reseeding Petunias is hard to beat. I love the way the corolla clings to my nose when I sniff them.. Then at dusk..they pump up the volume and the aroma fills the nursery. Cut the 1′-2′ long stalks to enjoy inside, and they will bloom even more. Colors range from white, to pink, violet and purple. They sometimes change colors during the season. Down here, they come up in the fall, put on lots of lush foliage over the winter. They start blooming in late winter, through spring and well into summer. Eventually, they bloom themselves out, but if you plant them where the seeds fail on bare ground, new seedlings will come up year after year. We propagated our plants from a naturalized population growing out of the cracks in a motel parking lot in Allendale Co., SC. (The motel closed in the 60’s or 70’s.) Plant in well drained soil in full sun.
