Description
Pollinators love the flowers of this rare shrub. In midsummer, when they bloom they fill the air with a fragrance like ripe muscadines. Birds love the fruit which changes from green to orange and then black. agrant flowers in mid-summer followed by orange then black fruit. If planted in the open, it grows into arching 6′-8′ tall mounding shrub, but if planted near trees or larger shrubs it will climb through them but not overpower them.We propagated ours from pieces that were scraped up during highway maintenance in Beaufort Co., SC. I found this wild population by smell while driving with my windows open. Thrives in average to dry, calcium rich soil.
