Description

This 1′-2′ tall native perennial wildflower is covered with pink flowers in spring and early summer. (The pink form is very rare.. The blue form is much more comon. Flowers attract butterflies, skippers, bees, and beneficial insects such as bee flies and wasps.  Skullcaps are larval host to at least two moths: Skullcap Caloptilla Moth and the Skullcap Skeletonizer Moth. Deer rarely bother Skullcaps. Some skullcaps are used medicinally . Extremely adaptable. Thrives in sun or part shade, average to wet, acid to circumneutral . Spreads well. The plants that we sell descended from ones that I rescued from highway constrction in Beaufort and Jasper Counties, SC in the early 1990s.
