Description

1′-3′ clump-forming,native perennial with a rich anise scent is covered with yellow flower heads from July to October. The flowers various kinds of bees and beneficial insects. The Xerces ranks them as special value to both honeybees and native bees.They also state that itsupports conservation biological control.   It is a larval host of over 40 different moths (all of which are pollinators), including the beautiful Ruby Tiger Moth. This makes it a great hunting ground for Mother Birds. Numerous species of birds feed on the seeds. The plant makes a pleasant tasting medicinal tea. Plant in sun or part shade in average to dry soil. Unlike some Goldenrods it is easily contained in gardens. It is native to the following states and provinces. USA: AL, AR, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, KY, LA, MA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WV
