Description
Mixture of Native Asters from Moist Shaded Woodlands (including Calico Aster in picture) 2-3′ tall Native Perennial spreads by underground stems to form large patches. Flowers open white and yellow and white and pink, or white and purple after pollination. Pollinated by Bees, Butterflies and Beneficial Insects. Specially valuable to Native Bees. Seeds are eaten by Songbirds and small mammals. Larval host of Several Butterflies including lar Pearl Crescents, Northern Crescents, Tawny Crescents, Field Crescents, Silvery Checkerspots and Numerous Moths including Asteroids, Brown-hooded Owlets, Camoflaged Loopes and Common Pugs. The numerous insects that feed on the foliage are important food source for Birds, Small Mammals, Lizards, Frogs and Toads. Sun or Part Shade. Average to Wet Soil. We propagated our plants from Native Populations in Coastal SC and Coastal GA.
