Description

1’2′ Tall Native Perennial with 1′ Evergreen Basal Leaves is covered by Fluffy Violet Blue Flowers from May-September. Deadheading extends flowering time. Attracts Butterflies, Bees, and Beneficial Insects such as Wasps. Birds feed on the seeds.

Native to NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS and LA.  Our plants were derived from native populations in North Florida.

Stokesia has long been cultivated in gardens. Adapts well to many garden conditions. Average Moisture. Sun or part shade. Plants grow well in waterlogged soil in the nursery. Pest Free. Deer rarely feed on them.

Hardy to Zone 5 with Mulch. Plants may not be evergreen in the colder zones.

Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Tolerates filtered sunlight, but prefers full sun. Prefers moist, sandy soils, but has surprisingly good drought and heat tolerance. Wet soil in winter is the main cause of death for this plant. A well-drained soil is essential. These plants appreciate winter mulch in the northern parts of their growing range (USDA Zone 5). Deadhead individual spent flowers and remove spent flowering stems to encourage additional bloom. Plants can be cut back to basal foliage after bloom.
