Description

6″-3′ tall aromatic, colony farming perennial has silvery foliage year-round. Yellow flowers are produced from July to October.  Larval host of two Butterflies: American Lady and Painted Lady Butterflies. The Xerces Society considers this important to native bees for structure and/or nesting material. Use Medicinal: www.wildlifer org report  Tea from leaves for stomach troubles. Tea of roots for laxative, inability to urinate and difficulty in childbirth. Crushed leaf as snuff for sinus attacks, nosebleed and headaches. Strong tea as wash for eczema, deodorant and antiperspirant for underarms and feet. Use Other: Smoke for ceremonial uses. Tea from leaves for ceremonial bathing. Cut stalks used for fragrant wreaths and floral arrangements.
Other Common Names:  Lousiana Artemisia, Louisiana Sage, Silver Sage, White Sagebrush, Louisiana Wormwood, Silver Wormwood, Louisiana Sagewort, Gray Sagewort, Cudweed Sagewort, Mugwort Wormwood.

There it is known as estafiate. Some botanists consider much of the Eastern populations to be escaped from garden populations. We propagated our plants from a wild population on a Beaufort Co., SC roadside.
