Description
1′-2′ native perennial attracts numerous butterflies in Sept and October when it blooms. Birds feed on the seeds. Is spreads by stolons to form tight patches. Deer rarely bother it around the nursery. This species thrives in average to wet soil in sun to part shade. It has thrived in my rain garden where it receives no irrigation, but can be inundated for several days after heavy rains. It is native to a few areas of SC, GA, and FL. We propagated our plants from a previously undiscovered native population in Colleton Co., SC.
