Description

This 1′-2′ tall native bunch grass has bluish foliage and finger-like seed-heads almost year-round on the SC coast. Birds love the seed. Growing naturally along the edges of salt marshes, sand dunes, and pine flatwoods, Dune Finger-grass helps stabilize soils and prevent erosion. They thrive where salt wind, salt flooding, shifting sands and high calcium soils cause other plants to fail. It is extremely drought tolerant but does not demand perfect drainage. Plant in full sun or part shade. Mulch lightly or not at all. Dune Finger-grass is one of my favorite “deer baffles”. Plant it among your tastier plants to protect them from browsing. Native to AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC,  PA, SC, and TX. We propagated our plants from native populations in Beaufort Co, SC.
